Our fully owned nuclear power plant
3d杀和尾loviisa 1 was commissioned in 1977 and loviisa 2 in 1980. operating licenses are valid until 2027 (lo1) and 2030 (lo2). instead of conventional fuel (e.g. coal, natural gas or peat), a nuclear power plant uses uranium as a source of energy.
loviisa power plant has two vver pressurised water reactors (pwr) with capacities of 507 mw net (lo1) and 502 mw net (lo2). the plant units generate a combined eight terawatt-hours (twh) of electricity annually for the national grid. that covers about 13 per cent of finland's electricity production. the amount of electricity generated at the loviisa power plant is almost equivalent to the total electricity consumption of the cities of helsinki, espoo and vantaa.
in terms of availability, loviisa ranks among the best in the world for pressurised water reactor power plants.
